Yesterday: U.S. indexes finished higher Monday, despite major geopolitical news, as investors largely shrugged off concerns after the U.S. attack on Venezuela and the capture of President Nicolas Maduro. All the major indexes closed in the green, with the Dow leading the way up 1.2%, and setting a new all-time high during the session. Energy stocks were among the top performers, driven by hopes that rebuilding Venezuela’s oil industry could boost profits, sending Chevron shares up more than 5%. Oil prices climbed nearly 2% on the day, and gold jumped as well (2.8%) for its biggest gain since October 20. Bitcoin also rallied, rising above $94,000 for the first time in more than a month, highlighting continued appetite for risk assets despite global uncertainty.
On Our Radar: Analysts will be paying attention to remarks from Richmond Fed President Tom Barkin, the final S&P U.S. services PMI for an update on business activity, and the API’s weekly crude oil inventory report. With regards to earnings, all eyes will be on Albertsons (ACI), and MSC Industrial (MSM) which will report earnings before the market opens tomorrow.

Verizon completed its $8.5 billion acquisition of MCI Inc. At the time of the merger, Verizon’s market capitalization was around $100 billion and cruised past $200 billion in less than a decade after the acquisition.
