Yesterday: U.S. indexes staged a big comeback Monday, rebounding from steep losses to close in the green as investors looked past escalating geopolitical tensions in the Middle East. Stocks initially tanked after President Trump announced a blockade of the Strait of Hormuz following Iran’s failure to uphold a two-week peace agreement. However, sentiment improved later in the session after Trump signaled potential renewed negotiations, stating that the opposing side was eager to make a deal. Oil prices initially surged as much as 7% on the blockade news before paring gains to end up roughly 2% on the day. Despite ongoing uncertainty and a fragile ceasefire, equities remain resilient, with major indexes now trading within 2% of their all-time highs.
On Our Radar: Analysts will be paying attention to the NFIB optimism index, producer price index (PPI), as well as remarks from Fed policymakers Barr, Collins, and Barkin. On the earnings front, all eyes will be on ASML (ASML), Bank of America (BAC), and Morgan Stanley (MS) which all report before the market opens Wednesday.
