Last Week: U.S. indexes continued their rally Friday, with the S&P 500 and Nasdaq posting their sixth-straight weekly gains and closing at fresh record highs thanks to strong earnings and better-than-expected labor market data. April nonfarm payrolls increased by 115,000, easily topping economist expectations (62,000), helping to keep the momentum going. Meanwhile, the Dow got in on the action as well as it extended its recent advance with gains in five of the last six weeks. Lastly, earnings season continues to support investor sentiment, with nearly 80% of S&P 500 companies having reported first-quarter results, with earnings growth tracking above 25%, marking a sixth consecutive quarter of double-digit profit growth.
On Our Radar: Analysts will be paying attention to existing home sales and consumer inflation expectations for clues on the economy and future interest rate expectations. On the earnings front, all eyes will be on AST SpaceMobile (ASTS), Rigetti (RGTI), and Hims and Hers (HIMS) which report after the market close today.
MARKET HEATMAP
Shares of Rocket Lab (RKLB) were up nearly 30%, while Akamai (AKAM), Monster (MNST), and Dropbox (DBX) surged double digits as well. Meanwhile, The Trade Desk (TTD), Cloudflare (NET), and Upwork (UPWK) were among the top laggards on the day. But those weren’t the only big movers.
