Yesterday: U.S. indexes kicked off the holiday-shortened week on a sour note with the Nasdaq and S&P 500 falling, pushing the S&P 500 closer to correction territory and potentially joining the other major indexes. Rising oil prices continued, causing a sharp selloff in the market — especially tech stocks as investor sentiment remained cautious despite positive comments from Fed Chair Jerome Powell, who noted that long-term inflation remains well anchored even amid higher energy costs. Market volatility surged, with the VIX — Wall Street’s fear gauge — climbing above 30 for the first time since last April, with oil closing at its highest level since July 2022, adding to inflation concerns.
On Our Radar: Analysts will be paying attention to job openings, consumer confidence, and the Case-Shiller home price index for a read on labor demand, household sentiment, and the housing market. On the earnings front, all eyes will be on RH (RH) which will report earnings after the market close today.
MARKET HEATMAP
Parts of the market rebounded with United Therapeutics (UTHR), Palo Alto (PANW), and Alcoa (AA) leading the way higher. Meanwhile, Micron (MU), Fermi (FRMI), and Sysco (SYY) plunged, and were among the top laggards of the day. But those weren’t the only companies making big moves. Here’s a look at some of the biggest winners and losers on Monday.

When oil moves 10% in days, metals swing hard in both directions, and the S&P can't hold a trend, most traders see uncertainty. Matt Maley sees structure. Over 43 years of trading, he's built a framework that identifies when volatility is building, which assets are most likely to move, and how to get positioned before the move confirms.
This Wednesday, at 6 PM ET, he's showing you exactly how it works in the current market.
