Apple beefs up iMessage security amid new quantum computing risks, NVIDIA's strong quarter, the most expensive house is where? And more

Happy Thursday Zingers! When you think about real estate that has no business being so expensive, you probably think of places like San Francisco and New York City.

But the most expensive house on the market just went up for $295 million in Naples, Florida. The property comes with nine acres of private land right on the water. It boasts one main house plus two guest houses. I called the real estate agent to inquire (can’t hurt to ask) and they said all I could afford was half of the mailbox.

Before we dive in, today’s partner is using robots to combat crime.

MARKET SNAPSHOT

Yesterday: It was a mixed day on the street as a weak report from Palo Alto Networks dragged the tech industry down. But a strong rally to finish the day brought the S&P 500 and the Dow into the green.

On Our Radar: Initial jobless claims came out before the open. Then the earnings train continues with companies like Moderna, Wayfair, Bookings, and Carvana.

Surging Demand: Nvidia capitalized on increased demand for its chips due to the surge in AI. The company’s data center vertical grew by more than 400% year over year.

CEO Quoted: “Accelerated computing and generative AI have hit the tipping point. Demand is surging worldwide across companies, industries and nations,” said Chairman and CEO Jensen Huang, who is dubbed the Godfather of AI by Wedbush analyst Daniel Ives.

Big Shoes: Nvidia is the world’s most valuable chip company, with a market cap of more than $1.5 trillion. If the AI surge continues, it could eventually catch up with companies like Apple and Microsoft, according to some analysts.

In an ever-evolving world, public safety is in need of an upgrade. AI and robotics are part of the solution to create safer public spaces while decreasing human error that can come from human police officers and security guards. Knightscope (KSCP) is a technology company ushering in the dawn of Autonomous Security Robots (ASRs) and working hard to protect U.S. citizens from crime across the country.

The company’s robots are designed to enhance safety and security in various environments, such as corporate campuses, shopping malls and hospitals. Knightscope robots operate autonomously, meaning they can navigate and patrol areas without human intervention using A.I., including autonomously recharging.

Knightscope’s influence and reach seem to be on the rise. Just in 2023, the company has made more than 50 announcements including numerous contracts and reports it is on track to double its revenue versus 2022. These contracts further validate the growing demand for Knightscope's robotic solutions as they continue to work through a nearly $5 million backlog of new orders.

The company is currently offering an investment opportunity for interested parties to buy bonds.

The robotics market was valued at $31.38 billion in 2021 and is expected to reach $110.39 by 2030 with a CAGR of 15% from 2022-2030. Knightscope seems well-positioned to capitalize on this growth and be a potential leader in the U.S. market. Click here to learn more about the Rise of the Robots.

When Skies Are Gray: Solar investors are looking for any sunshine they can get. Sunnova’s stock was the latest to fall after a poor earnings report.

Just Keep Buying: Interest rates? Who cares! Retail investors just keep on buying small-cap ETFs.

Me, Myself, and I: Mr. Beast took matters into his own hands and started stocking the shelves of grocery stores with his own candy bars.

ONE FOR THE ROAD

Briefly: I’m sure the last thing you want is your iMessages getting hacked by AI. I don’t need Chat GPT judging me for still texting my mom to ask her how to make Kraft Mac & Cheese (not a sponsored plug, but if you work at Kraft my DMs are open).

What Happened: In a bid to fortify its messaging platform against potential quantum computing decryption, Apple has introduced a new security upgrade for iMessage.

The Details: The new security protocol, called PQ3, is a significant overhaul of the iMessage cryptographic protocol. This move shows that U.S. tech companies are preparing for the potential impact of quantum computing.

A Proactive Move: Apple says that its encryption algorithms are cutting-edge and have not yet been successfully breached. However, the possibility that quantum computers might render current encryption measures obsolete has become a concern for tech companies.
