Last Week: U.S. indexes finished sharply lower Friday, with the S&P 500 falling to a seven-month low and marking its fifth consecutive weekly decline, as escalating tensions from the Iran conflict weighed on investor sentiment. The Dow entered correction territory, joining the Nasdaq, as hopes for a swift resolution to the conflict continued to fade. Despite broad market weakness, energy remained the top-performing sector, supported by surging oil prices, with Brent crude nearing $115 per barrel and on track for a record monthly gain. Treasury yields extended their rise, with the 10-year yield nearing 4.44%, as inflation concerns — driven by higher energy prices — has prompted markets to push back expectations for rate cuts to 2027, a slower pace than the Fed’s latest projections.
On Our Radar: Analysts will be paying attention to remarks from Jerome Powell and John Williams for fresh insight into the Fed’s policy path and economic outlook. On the earnings front, all eyes will be on Nike (NKE) which will report after the market close tomorrow.
