🐭 Is The Magic Back?

Why Disney is trading at 52-week highs, Target's strong earnings report, NYC vs Miami and more

Happy Wednesday Zingernation! Who let the bears out? My stocks were down yesterday, so I bought Bitcoin, then that dropped 10%. Hey, when it rains it pours, and yesterday felt like a tropical cyclone.

I’m just trying to find shelter. I’ll go anywhere that’s got it! Wait… is that what I think it is? A bunker in the village of Dogecointown? Only one way to find out.

MARKET SNAPSHOT

Yesterday: Was pretty much the exact opposite of Monday. The overall market traded lower all day, but a minor rally toward the close brought the major indices off their lows of the day.

On Our Radar: It’s a JPOW day! The Fed Chairman will testify to Congress starting at 10 am ET. I have a hunch that Mr. Market will be listening in.

Briefly: An activist battle against leading media company Walt Disney Co has been in the works for over a year, escalating in recent months.

What Happened: Activist investor Nelson Peltz of Trian Fund Management is in the middle of a battle against Disney, with nominations of himself and another candidate for the board announced in December.

Making Moves: On Monday, Trian outlined its priorities for Disney and how it could help the company and shareholders "restore the magic."

Quoted: "Disney is the most advantaged consumer entertainment company in the world and should have had a ‘winning hand' in today's evolving consumer entertainment landscape. But instead, Disney lost its way over the past decade," Trian said in a 133-page presentation.

A Turnaround: The activist battle against Disney came as shares of the media company were struggling and hit nine-year lows. Now, shares of Disney have rebounded and trade at new 52-week highs, which could alleviate some of the pressure on the media company.
