Yesterday: U.S. indexes surged Wednesday, with the Dow posting its largest one-day gain in over a year, as easing geopolitical tensions boosted investor sentiment. President Trump announced a two-week ceasefire with Iran, as both sides came to a temporary agreement. The deal was contingent on Iran reopening the Strait of Hormuz, however, traffic remains at a standstill despite it being ”open.” Still, oil prices plunged more than 16% to around $94 per barrel, marking the largest daily drop since the COVID-19 pandemic (April 2020). Lastly, with risk appetite increasing, the U.S. dollar — which has steadily risen the past two months — slumped 1% and may continue to do so if peace talks continue to prevail.
On Our Radar: Analysts will be paying attention to today’s releases on personal income/spending, PCE inflation, and GDP to gauge the health of the consumer, inflation, and the pace of economic growth. On the earnings front, all eyes will be on WD-40 (WDFC), which will report after the market close today.
MARKET HEATMAP
The market soared with some of the indexes hitting their largest one-day gains in over a year. A big part of that was due to Intel (INTC), Carnival (CCL), Corning (GLW), and Sandisk (SNDK) which all jumped double digits to lead the market higher. Meanwhile, Palantir (PLTR), Workday (WDAY), and Applovin (APP) were among the top laggards of the day. But those weren’t the only companies making big moves. Here’s a look at some of the biggest winners and losers on Wednesday.
