🤖 NVIDIA's New Toy

NVIDIA invests in a humanoid robot startup. Plus, the $SNOW-ball effect.

Happy Thursday, Zingers! Honestly, I haven’t been huge on AI tools like ChatGPT or Midjourney. As a creative by trade, what am I gonna do with writing that’s algorithmically designed to resemble other people’s writing?
And as far as Midjourney goes, I mean… “Mid” is right there in the title.

That said, I finally found one AI-related product I will try. In case you missed it, golf equipment manufacturer Callaway’s new driver was essentially made by AI. The club, named ‘Paradym AI Smoke’, was designed using more than a million data points and with 80,000 lines of custom code.

Now, I can confidently say my next sliced ball will be because of a design flaw, not my swing. Who wouldn’t pay $600 for that?

Briefly: Plot twist! Today, NVIDIA is the one investing in an AI play.

So Basically: Humanoid robots startup Figure AI, founded in 2022, has already raised more than $1 billion, most recently from the likes of NVIDIA, Microsoft, and Jeff Bezos.

So Then: The startup partnered with OpenAI to develop advanced AI models for humanoid robots and secured an AI infrastructure deal with Microsoft to accelerate the deployment of these robots in real-world applications.

So What? Figure AI CEO Brett Adcock envisions humanoid robots entering commercial operations soon, potentially filling up to 10 million jobs in undesirable or unsafe conditions in the U.S. alone, addressing a labor shortage and contributing to filling the 2.1 million unfilled jobs projected in the U.S. manufacturing sector by 2030.
