Yesterday: U.S. indexes finished higher Tuesday, marking a fourth consecutive gain, after third-quarter GDP data showed the economy grew faster than expected at 4.3% — the strongest reading in two years — driven by robust consumer spending on goods and services. The report initially tempered expectations for near-term interest rate cuts, though futures markets still continue to price in two cuts next year. And as 2026 draws closer, Wall Street is watching to see if the Santa Claus rally will materialize this year. The rally, which occurs between the last five trading days of the year and the first two of the new year — which starts today — has recorded an average gain of 1.3% since 1950.
On Our Radar: With the holiday-shortened week keeping the economic calendar light, today’s schedule offers little in the way of data, leaving initial jobless claims as the sole headliner analysts will be watching for fresh insight into the health of the U.S. labor market.

MARKET HISTORY
On This Day…
Investors often turn their attention to the Santa Claus Rally, a seasonal stock market pattern first named by Yale Hirsch in his 1972 publication — The Stock Trader’s Almanac — although the pattern itself dates back to 1950. The so-called rally occurs during the final five trading days of the year and the first two trading days of the new year — in this case, from the opening bell on December 24 through January 5, 2026. Historically, this stretch has been favorable for equities, with the S&P 500 recording an average gain of about 1.3% since 1950.
QUOTE OF THE DAY
