Yesterday: Stop us if you’ve heard this before, but the S&P 500 and Nasdaq once again climbed to fresh record highs, as Wall Street looks to extend the rally to seven consecutive weeks. Strong corporate earnings continues to drive sentiment, with more than 90% of S&P 500 companies having reported first-quarter results, with 84.3% surpassing analyst expectations. Overall, Q1 earnings are on pace to grow 26% — significantly higher than estimates of 12%-13% at the beginning of the earnings season. Lastly, oil prices moved higher after President Donald Trump criticized the month-old ceasefire between the U.S. and Iran as “ weak” and said it was “on life support” following Iran’s rejection and counterproposal, raising concerns over potential supply disruptions in the Middle East.
On Our Radar: Analysts will be paying attention to today’s headline event — consumer price index (CPI) — for a read on inflation, as well as remarks from several fed officials (John Williams and Austan Goolsbee). On the earnings front, all eyes will be on Sea Limited (SE), and Jd.com (JD) which will report earnings after the market close today.
