TODAYâS TOP STORY
What Happened: Approximately 15,000 car dealerships throughout the U.S. that use CDK Global, a private software company, had their services disrupted following cyberattacks on CDK Globalâs platform on Wednesday.
So: According to Axios, CDK told customers on Thursday that it did ânot have an estimated time frame for resolution and therefore our dealersâ systems will not be available likely for several days.â
Basically: Dealers are now using pen and paper rather than computer systems for several functions. Some routine actions, such as title work, cannot be done amid the outage. Here are some other companies that have recently dealt with cyberattacks.
PRESENTED BY THERIVA BIOLOGICS
Therivaâą Biologics, an immuno-oncology company developing oncolytic viruses, otherwise known as cancer cell-infecting viruses, to overcome the protective barrier surrounding solid tumors and selectively kill tumor cells has achieved a significant milestone as the U.S. FDA has granted Fast Track Designation (FTD) to their VCN-01 treatment.
Theriva Biologicsâ approach to cancer treatment differentiates it from its peers, potentially placing the company in a unique market position. As incidences of pancreatic cancer continue to rise globally, drug treatment options, such as VCN-01, will likely rise in demand. With VCN-01 receiving FTD from the U.S. FDA, this milestone speaks to the drug's efficacy and long-run potential.
ONE TRADE IDEA FOR NEXT WEEK
Briefly: YouTube, Alphabet Incâs video streaming platform, is reportedly experimenting with new ways to prevent rampant ad-blocking on the platform.
What Happened: SponsorBlock, a crowdsourced Google Chrome extension designed to bypass sponsored content, reported on YouTubeâs latest crackdown in a post on X, formerly known as Twitter.
So: YouTube is reportedly experimenting with server-side ad injection, a method to prevent ad-blocking overrides like SponsorBlock. The platform will insert ad-related material directly into the video stream instead of on top of the video stream. Will the efforts help boost YouTubeâs revenue and thus Alphabetâs stock?
